Never Assume! It Can Be Fatal!
What do you sell? Does your home page really show that?
When I was in 7th grade a teacher told me, "When you assume you make an ass out of 'u' and 'me'." At the time I assumed he was weird.
Since that time I've learned better. Not about him, but about assuming. Yet more and more I come across websites that seemed not to have learned. They make assumptions, big ones. Among these assumptions are:
"When a person comes to my site it is because they know about us and what we do."
"Our site makes sense to me, it'll make sense to anyone."
But does it? If a complete stranger came to our site, looking for a product or service like yours, would they know if they had found the right site?
Before you answer, read this article. Then go to your site as if you were that complete stranger and see if your viewpoint changes.
