Do You Know Where Your Website is Going?

“When you don’t know where you’re going,
it doesn’t matter which way you go.”

So advised the Cheshire Cat in Alice in Wonderland. But just because it's from a fictional character doesn't make it bad advice.

We get a lot of inquiries at CityCenter concerning improving website performance. People ask how to get more out of their site, make it do more, or just generally improve it. They want us to analyze the site, review the statistics and make our recommendations.

We've been finding some of the really basic problems on most websites is the owner of the site doesn't really know what the site is there for. When asked the simple question, "What's the purpose of the site?" they usually responded with "What do you mean, we needed a website. Everybody needs a website."

While we agree, everybody does need a website, that website needs a purpose. It can be for sales, for customer service, or to inform people of the organization's existence. A website should prompt the visitor to action - whether it's placing an order, making a phone call, sending an email or letting a friend know about the website, the site needs to guide the visitor to do something.

If that something wasn't built into the website from the beginning it's unlikely it will prompt the desired action.

If you're thinking your website needs to do more, or at least do something, and want to get some advice on how to improve it, here are some questions to think about before you call CityCenter:

  1. What do you want the site to do?
  2. Who is the site's target audience?
  3. What information would that person need to have in order to do what you want them to do?
  4. And finally, is that information currently on your website where the person can easily find it and act on it?

Now that you've thought about it, make the call. Call CityCenter at 626-449-0100 and we'll work out the best way to make your website a functional part of your business.
